About

Portage Electric Products, Inc. offers the most diverse line of thermal control products, worldwide. As a company founded and run by electrical engineers, we’ve always taken a solutions-based view of the products we develop, manufacture and distribute. We developed one of the first bimetallic thermal controls in the 1960s, a product that is still manufactured today in a refined version.

The first PEPI thermal control was manufactured in a small building on Portage Avenue in North Canton, Ohio. Today we have business operations in seven countries, including the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Mexico, Hong Kong, Japan and China. Throughout our global expansion we have worked hard to maintain the dedication to engineering excellence, innovation and responsiveness to customer product and service needs.

From the very beginning we recognized the important role thermal controls play in maintaining the safety of the appliances, battery packs, small motors and other products that depend on our products. We saw that virtually every application could be customized in some way to improve reliability or the ease of installation at a customer’s own manufacturing facilities. We also saw the need to maintain exacting standards for the component parts we use. Safety first.

At the same time, we have continuously innovated the miniaturization of thermal controls to fit in increasingly small spaces in battery packs, small motors and appliances.

The result of over a half century as a leading thermal control supplier is a diverse line of thermal controls, including snap-action, creep-action, disc-type, thermal fuses, self-hold devices and a variety of different sizes and configurations. Ask us today if there’s a better way to ensure the safety of your products, because at Portage Electric, “We come through when the heat is on.”
